Charo Ruiz
Rosario Ruiz Amodeo is the designer and owner of Charo Ruiz Ibiza, a fashion company driven by an understanding of the industry and a total respect for the principles of quality and styles. The company is defined as the prime example of the Ad-lib movement because after 30 years in the fashion industry, it has attained recognition and understanding for the “Made in Ibiza” label throughout the world, a challenge which has led Japanese, Russian and American women to adapt the style and admire the product. Today, they have retail outlets in more than 20 countries and their products are found in the wardrobes of many important actresses, singers, models and international fashionistas.
This year, the 'Ad-lib' brand received the Ramon Llull Award from the Balearic Islands Government, for its successful efforts in increasing international awareness of the islands of Ibiza and Formentera.
How I found Ibiza...
I first came to Ibiza on holiday with a friend in 1975. Back then, I was a model and travelled a lot. As I stepped onto the island, I was so taken in by it all that a few years later, I moved here and this is now my way of life.

What still seduces me most about Ibiza is its people, who are a perfect mix of different origins, cultures and beauty. But all of them have a common denominator, the ability to enjoy life to the fullest.
A Luxury on the island...
The climate, the sense of freedom and how that influences people’s attire, especially women. When they arrive on the island they transform their fashion style by wearing more comfortable and original clothing, without worrying about things being transparent. They get used to wearing white and natural materials, and simply feel better for it.
My favourite moment...
I couldn’t choose just one, there are so many. The 70s and the full-moon parties in Espalmador, unconceivable today; the creative explosion of the 80s and above all, having given birth to my children here, seeing them grow up in direct contact with nature in tolerant and respectful surroundings.
A memory when I’m far away...
To be able to enjoy the beaches and the quality of the water when out sailing with my family and friends, or simply just enjoy reading a book alone in the quiet solitude of an isolated cove.
The magic of Ibiza...
I channel this magic into my work, trying to surpass myself with the new collections I present each season. My studio and workshop are here, which is where I spend most of my time. Ibiza provides me with exactly what I need – large doses of inspiration, determination, consistency. I think it’s magical.
What I tell my friends...
The diversity of the scenes on the island inspires me to recommend Ibiza to friends from all different walks of life. Ibiza gives off very different and opposing energies; something difficult to find in any other part of the world.
