Óscar Pereiro

My name is Óscar Pereiro Sío. I was born on August 3, 1977, in Mos, Pontevedra, and sports have always been my passion and my way of life. Since I was a child, cycling was much more than a hobby for me; it was the path that allowed me to push past limits and achieve dreams that once seemed impossible.
I had the privilege of winning the Tour de France in 2006, a moment that marked my life and career and remains one of the accomplishments I am most proud of. I was also honored with the Gold Medal for Sporting Merit—an award I deeply value, as it symbolizes years of effort, sacrifice, and dedication.
Nowadays, I remain closely connected to the world of sports in various ways. I am an Ambassador for the Vuelta a España, which allows me to share my passion for cycling and connect with fans across the country. I’m also a sports commentator for Cadena COPE, where I aim to contribute my experience and knowledge to enrich the listeners’ perspective. In addition, I’m fortunate to take part in TV debates on shows like El Chiringuito de Jugones, where I enjoy engaging in passionate conversations about the world of sports.
Over the years, I’ve learned that sports are not just about competition; they are a philosophy that teaches you to fight, to work as a team, and to never give up. My goal is to continue inspiring new generations and enjoying this thrilling journey that has given me so much.
How I found Ibiza...
How I Discovered Ibiza…
My first trip to Ibiza was as an ambassador for an English clothing brand, attending their annual collection presentation.
I spent a week in Santa Eulalia, going on bike rides, doing morning yoga on the beach, enjoying daily dinners in different places, boat outings, and ending the workweek with a party at Can Atzaró.
But without a doubt, what truly allowed me to discover the real Ibiza were its sporting events.
The Vuelta Cicloturista a Ibiza and the Vuelta a Ibiza BTT are fixed events in my yearly race calendar. Ibiza is also where I made my debut in the world of triathlon by participating in the Sprint Ibiza Triathlon, and more recently, I took part in the 10k Cursa Patrimoni.
What Ibiza Means to Me…
To me, Ibiza is a place where relaxation and freedom from daily obligations begin the moment you land.
Its landscapes, coves, restaurants, sporting events… all combine to create a perfect cocktail that never fails.
I’ve also been fortunate to meet incredibly warm and welcoming people who have turned my occasional visits into regular ones—so much so that I now feel I have friends who are part of that chosen family we build throughout life.
What the Island of Ibiza Transmits to Me…
The island gives me a sense of peace and calm, making me feel like I’m in an unmatched natural paradise.
Time only stops if you want it to, and the perfect plan is always just within reach.
Every corner brings joy, and the blend of sunlight and sea creates a kind of magic that takes you out of the real world.
Sport is something I never leave behind during my days on the island—my morning runs along the San Antonio Bay, and both road and mountain bike rides are essential parts of my stay.
What’s Your Favorite Ibizan Dish?
My favorite dish, besides Bullit de Peix, is a good paella surrounded by friends.
What Song Do You Associate with Ibiza? And Why?
Sarà perché ti amo by Ricchi e Poveri.
It’s a song that always plays during gatherings with friends and the parties we organize.
If there’s one song that gets everyone up from their chair at our celebrations, it’s that one.
A Special Memory in Ibiza…
I have many memories, and every year I could name a new one, but the most special one is definitely spending my honeymoon on the island.
Another great memory—as a cyclist—is that Ibiza managed, for the first time ever, to bring together all the living Tour de France winners.
It happened during the Vuelta Cicloturista a Ibiza 2024, and that’s something no one had ever achieved before.
When You Recommend Ibiza to Your Friends, What Do You Highlight? How Do You Describe It?
When I recommend Ibiza to my friends, I do so with complete sincerity and from the heart, because I know what it’s given me.
It’s a lesser-known destination for sports, a place where you can have fun without even trying, and above all, I highlight the hospitality of the Ibizan people.
It’s a destination that will never let you down—and I always warn them: there's a little bug on the island, and once it bites you, you’ll be hooked for life.
