Ibiza's natural corners that remind us why the island must be protected
Beyond its visible beauty, the island is also a fragile and valuable ecosystem where unique species, protected landscapes and traditions that have respected nature for centuries coexist.
Discovering these natural corners is not only a pleasure for the senses: it is also an invitation to understand why protecting Ibiza is a shared responsibility.
Fauna and flora: a unique ecosystem in the Mediterranean

The Pitiusas – Ibiza and Formentera – are home to surprising biodiversity. In its fields, forests and seabed there are species that are part of the natural balance of the island.
Among the pine forests, junipers and aromatic plants such as rosemary or thyme live reptiles, birds and small animals adapted to the Mediterranean climate. One of the most characteristic species is the Sargantana pitiusa, a small endemic lizard that can be seen in different colours and patterns depending on the area of the island or the islets it inhabits.
In the sky and on the cliffs we also find emblematic species such as the virot, or Balearic shearwater, one of the most representative seabirds of the Mediterranean and currently considered a vulnerable species. Their presence on the coasts and nature reserves of the Pitiusas reminds us of the importance of protecting these unique ecosystems.
Underwater, the real natural treasure is the Posidonia oceanica, an ancient marine plant that forms extensive underwater meadows. In addition to being responsible for the transparency of Ibiza's waters, this ecosystem acts as a refuge for numerous marine species and as a natural barrier against coastal erosion.
Taking care of this biodiversity is essential to maintain the environmental balance that makes Ibiza such a special place.
Three natural parks that protect the essence of the island

Ibiza's natural wealth is protected in several spaces that preserve unique landscapes and fundamental ecosystems.
The Ses Salines Natural Park in Ibiza and Formentera is one of the most emblematic. This environment combines salt flats, dunes, beaches and posidonia meadows in a landscape that is also a transit point for numerous migratory birds such as flamingos or herons.
Another essential enclave is the Nature Reserve of Es Vedrà, Es Vedranell and the islets of Poniente, a group of islets that is home to important colonies of seabirds and has become one of the landscape symbols of Ibiza.
To the north, Es Amunts represents the wildest and most authentic Ibiza. This protected natural area stands out for its cliffs, Mediterranean forests, valleys and an "untouched island" feeling that today is a real treasure. It is the type of landscape that invites you to walk, observe and understand why preserving what remains unspoiled is so important.
These spaces not only preserve biodiversity, they also allow visitors and residents to enjoy a more authentic and wild Ibiza.
Protecting Ibiza: a shared responsibility
Enjoying Ibiza's nature also means respecting it. Every small gesture – from avoiding leaving waste to following marked trails or supporting sustainable initiatives – contributes to conserving these landscapes for future generations.
More and more projects on the island promote responsible tourism that values the natural environment and local culture. This year, Ibiza Luxury Destination reinforces its commitment to sustainability by making a donation to IbizaPreservation to help protect the island's natural environment.
Walking along a coastal path, bird watching in a wetland or simply watching a sunset in silence are experiences that remind us that Ibiza's true luxury is its nature.
Because preserving the island not only means protecting its landscape, but also taking care of what makes it unique.
